Ac Tech MC Series: NEMA Enclosure Types Explained

If you’re in the market for an AC Tech VFD (variable frequency drive) in the AC Tech MC Series, then first take note that there are four NEMA enclosure offerings with this particular motor control series. There are also two models, MC1000 and MC3000.

The four NEMA enclosures are as follows:

1. NEMA 1: This AC Tech MC Series enclosure is the most common and may be used for general purposes. It should be installed where the environment remains fairly clean throughout the work process. NEMA 1 enclosure helps prevent overheating by allowing for free air exchange.

2. NEMA 12: The NEMA 12 enclosure for MC Series drives is gasketed for protection of the drive hardware/electronics. It may be installed for use in environments where there might be airborne contaminants such as dust or oil. If you need a smaller power size for this same duty, consider the NEMA 4 (described below).

3. NEMA 4: Designed for washdown duty, the NEMA 4 enclosure can protect the electronics from water, keeps the equipment clean and without the need for cooling fans.

4. NEMA 4X: This enclosure is also watertight (like the NEMA 4) but can also protect the electronics from caustic agents. It is made with anodized heat sinks and stainless steel to provide long-lasting use.

Variable frequency drives (VFD) in the AC Tech MC Series provide a number of features to fit a wide variety of applications. Companies that sell AC drives (such as Carotron, Inc.) can provide you with assistance to find the drive that best fits with your operation.
