Domain names and how to get inbound links
Does the length of your website’s domain name registration affect search engine optimization and results?
Should you renew your domain name for a long period of time and if so, how long is long enough? If you want to stay ahead of your competition, then you need to consider looking at the length of time your competitors have registered their domain names. If your competitors have generally renewed their domain names for one or two years, you might consider registering your domain names for 5 or 10 years.
While putting off your domain name’s expiration date will help your search engine rankings, keep in mind that it may be only a small victory when it comes to search engine rankings. However, you need to realize that top rankings in the search engines are built on small things like this. It’s something that few pay attention to but getting your domain name for a longer term will help.
There are a lot of link exchange services out there but for the most part you want to stay away from them as google doesn’t like most of them. It’s better and more productive to go find or make your own links so you can control the text.
Google relies on inbound links to learn what sites are about and it’s the text of the link that tells them that. Also, links should come from sites that have the same topics yours do. That’s not a hard and fast rule as there are ways to make links good even if they are from a different type site.
Now I hate to work at getting them but they are necessary so I do it the easiest way possible. Well, 3 of the easiest ways possible. I have a network of sites and blogs I can use, I write articles and I belong to a place that lets me post back links in tons of blogs. Now worries about what the text is going to be or if the places are on Googles bad list or anything at all. No emails to webmasters begging for partners and no submitting to directories which aren’t all that well liked by Google anyway.
