Modbus (R) Protocols
Industrial components and motor control products that require Master/Slave (client and server) communication between two or more devices often use Modbus (R) protocols. The Modbus (R) RTU (RS-232 or RS-485) is the most widely accepted protocol in industrial facilities because it is reliable and easy to implement and use. Another benefit is Modbus (R) protocols can be implemented in mutliple settings, whether between sensors, with multiple devices, between instruments, or even for monitoring purposes.
One feature that makes Modbus (R) RTU protocols so diverse and popular is that they have a simple design for transmitting messages between server and client. These use the basic command and response system to ensure that machinery and computers can work efficiently without error. Compare Modbus (R) protocols with other newer client/server protocols on the market to learn of the differences. You’ll find that in many cases, the simplicity of the RTU modules is all you’ll need!
